"For 19 years, I've been
designing, writing and teaching about art and sewing outerwear. During that
time, I've developed simple, unique and effective methods for making the
creative process become more satisfying. Much of that satisfaction comes
from sharing what I've discovered with adults and children alike.
My home is in Portland, Oregon at the base of Mt. Hood in the Cascade range where I live and work in (as well as renovate) a 1912 bungalow with my husband and children. Working from home allows flexibility for driving kids to sports, music, dance, and a multitude of other activities. All hope for a clean kitchen has been lost. Life is good." While working at a fabric store in the 80’s and early 90’s as a buyer, pattern designer, and department manager for the outerwear department (DK Sports), Rochelle acquired valuable knowledge and skills while working and problem solving with designers and sample fabric buyers from Nike, Duffel, Columbia Sportswear and other Portland area manufacturers. An independent designer and contractor, Rochelle has developed designs for a variety of sportswear manufacturers and sewing pattern companies, including SAF-T-POCKETS travelwear and DK Sports patterns. She has written extensively for THREADS magazine on a variety of topics and is a member of the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers. Recently, Rochelle was featured on two episodes of the show "Sew Much More" on HGTV/DIY networks. Both these episodes highlight special techniques developed by Rochelle to personalize and customize outerwear garments. The first episode featured Rochelle's Sporty Reversible Vest which is now offered as Rochelle's Reversible Vest & Jacket SAF-T-POCKETS pattern available on this site. The second episode shows how a Waterproof Jacket is constructed using special techniques for sealing seams developed by Rochelle.
